Former Liverpool striker makes Poch prediction that will surprise some Spurs fans

Tottenham Hotspur certainly caused a shock when they made it to the Champions League final last season.

After going over 500 days without spending a penny in the transfer market, Daniel Levy finally opened his cheque book this summer with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino admitting that he is really happy with the squad and revealing that he is hoping to win some silverware this season (Football.London).

Several pundits including former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho (Sky Sports) and former Everton defender Phil Neville (BBC) have backed Spurs to push Manchester City and Liverpool in the title race this season.

However, Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor has made a shock prediction that will puzzle Spurs fans.

Mellor said he expects the 47-year-old to be the first Premier League manager to leave this season.

He predicted that Pochettino will return to Spain and be the man to replace Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid this season.

Speaking to BetVictor’s The Sack Race, Mellor said, “I think it could be someone less obvious (the first manager to leave), like Mauricio Pochettino. Look at Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane – there’s a bit of unrest there – could he leave?

“If a club like Real Madrid are looking for a top replacement, Pochettino would be a really strong candidate. I think he’s done an incredible job at Spurs, taking them to the Champions League final, and consistently finishing in the top-four.

“Who’s going to go first? It could well be the least expected one.”

While one cannot rule anything out in football, Pochettino seems to be a man for whom loyalty matters a lot. So it is extremely unlikely that he will leave the Spurs job midway into the season particularly after the club has backed him this summer by adding some top players to the squad.
