Former Man City midfielder warns Chelsea that Spurs could finish above them this season

Former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal could both finish in the top four of the Premier League this season with Chelsea missing out.

Third-place Chelsea are currently three points ahead of Arsenal and five better off than Tottenham with three games left to play in the current campaign.

Chelsea have only won of their last three top flight outings with both Arsenal and Chelsea having closed the gap on their London rivals.

Thomas Tuchel’s side face Leeds, Leicester and Watford in their last three fixtures with the former Dutch international warning that they need to start picking up points or could face the consequences of missing out on European football’s most prestigious club competition next season.

“They [Arsenal] closed the gap on Chelsea. You cannot forget that. We all thought Chelsea had secured their place. It’s not undoable also for Tottenham, no? Five points is the gap with Chelsea. They need to get some points on the board, or it’s not looking good for them,” De Jong told beIN Sports.

Given Chelsea’s opposition in their last three matches compared to who Spurs face, I do not see either Arsenal or ourselves finishing above them in the table. If Antonio Conte had been in charge of Spurs for the duration of the season, it could have been a different story.
