Former Man City player aims dig at Spurs after admitting he likes defender ‘a lot’

Former Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers forward Rodney Marsh has taken to social media to admit that he likes the look of Joe Rodon and also took a sly dig at Tottenham in the process.

Jose Mourinho has struggled to find his first-choice pairing at centre-back this season and has had to chop and change at the back quite frequently.

Tottenham’s three senior centre-backs, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld have all struggled over the course of the campaign with none of them managing to nail a place down in the starting line up week in, week out.

Just when it looked like Sanchez had turned a corner, the Colombian once again showed his frailties in the 2-2 draw against Newcastle on Sunday.

Rodon has had to watch on patiently from the sidelines for the majority of the campaign, with his chances of game time not being helped by the fact that he was left out of the Europa League squad.

However, the Welshman has shown some promise in the opportunities that he has had and he now seems to have forced himself into Mourinho’s starting eleven, with the Spurs boss handing the 23-year-old back to back Premier League starts against Aston Villa and Newcastle.

Marsh praised Rodon and in an apparent dig at Spurs, stating that the former Swansea man is good enough to play for a ‘top six’ side.

Given how poor our senior centre-backs have been this season, Rodon certainly deserves a run in the side until the end of the season. In fact, I have been surprised that Jose has not been tempted to start Japhet Tanganga alongside the Welshman at centre-back.
