Former Man Utd man urges Red Devils to sign 25-year-old Tottenham player

Former Manchester United midfielder Jose Kleberson has suggested that Richarlison would thrive in Erik Ten Hag’s set-up at Old Trafford.

Spurs had to beat out plenty of competition from Premier League rivals to snap up Richarlison from Everton last summer, with the Lilywhites paying £60m to sign the forward (SkySports).

Things have not gone according to plan for the Brazilian in his first season in North London as multiple injuries have prevented him from having any continuity.

The 25-year-old has started three of Tottenham’s last four matches across all competitions but has failed to show the sort of enterprise and threat he has displayed in an Everton shirt or while playing for Brazil.

Richarlison has found the back of the net just twice for the Lilywhites since his move, and Kleberson believes that his compatriot made a mistake by joining Antonio Conte’s side, given the other forwards he is now competing with in N17.

The 43-year-old said on OLGB (as relayed by TEAMtalk): “I’d really like to see Richarlison play for Man Utd.

“He’s the kind of striker that could help United a lot. Especially with teams pressing, he can do a low block, he can put pressure on the centre-back and he can get inside the box.

“He’s played in the Premier League for many years, he understands the rules and he’s a really hard-working player.

“As Man Utd get more structure and consistency, winning more games, I think Richarlison is a player who could do a lot for the club.

“When Richarlison was at Everton, I think he should have gone to Man Utd instead of Tottenham. It could have been different. Now he doesn’t play much and he doesn’t get many opportunities.

“He’s competing with guys at Tottenham who are amazing players. He’s on the bench, but he’s competing with these big players.

“As a club, sometimes you need to take a risk because he’s not a bad player, he’s an amazing player.

“He plays for Brazil’s national team, he just needs game time and some confidence from the coach and the team.

“I believe he could easily do an amazing job for United.”

Despite Richarlison’s struggles this season, there is no chance that the club will consider cashing in on him after just one campaign.

Tottenham probably view the 25-year-old as a long-term investment and his fortunes will likely turn sooner rather than later.
