Former manager is ‘surprised’ that Spurs want to sell midfielder

Former Rangers manager, Alex McLeish has claimed that he is surprised Tottenham want to sell academy graduate Harry Winks this summer (Football Insider).

Now 25-years-old, it is claimed that Fabio Paratici has told Winks that Tottenham will listen to any offers for him in the current transfer window.

The report claimed that Tottenham would accept £30m or possibly less for Winks, although TransferMarkt report that he is only currently worth around £18m.

McLeish believes that Paratici may already have new signings in mind and they need to free up some money and squad places to bring people in.

Winks struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho last season, playing just 860 Premier League minutes. Although he did rack up 30 appearances in all competitions (TransferMarkt).

McLeish said: “An English Premier League player costs that kind of money.

“He’s being allowed to leave and you would think that is something of a slight on the player but they still want £30 million for him.

“You would think Harry Winks would be saying ‘They want rid of me’, head down.

“But he is still a young man and he’s got a brightness about his style of football. I’m surprised Spurs are not going to go forward with boys like that.

“Maybe Paratici has other names in their mind and they need to free up money to get their own men in. People that they know.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I really like Winks but with Oliver Skipp returning to the club, it could be time for him to leave. I would like to see a bid of £20m come in from a Southampton or Aston Villa and see Winks playing regular football again as I still believe he has a lot to offer.
