Former Manchester United striker urges new club to sign Spurs star

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has urged Antonio Conte to snap up Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen according to a report by TuttoSport.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Spurs were planning for life without Vertonghen next season after the defender rejected a one-year extension offered by the club.

It was reported that the experienced centre half, whose current deal with Spurs runs out in the summer wanted a minimum of a two-year contract extension to commit his future to the club.

The 32-year-old has already been linked with a move to Inter (Standard), who swooped for his former Spurs team-mate Christian Eriksen in January.

TuttoSport have revealed that Vertonghen’s Belgian international teammate, Lukaku has given his backing for the deal to bring the former Ajax player to the San Siro.

He is said to have asked the Nerrazzuri to snap up the experienced defender who he has had many great battles with over the years during his time in the Premier League at West Brom, Everton and Manchester United.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the financial distress that many clubs around Europe find themselves in due to the coronavirus shutdown, I believe several teams will be attracted by the prospect of landing Vertonghen on a free transfer. I expect the Belgian to attract a lot of interest from big clubs over the summer.
