Former owner thinks club ‘underestimated’ impact of losing player to Spurs

Former Inter Milan owner Massimo Moratti has suggested that the Nerazzurri may have underestimated the impact that losing Ivan Perisic will have on the side.

Perisic was one of the best players in Milan last season, scoring ten goals and providing nine assists across all competitions from left wing-back (Transfermarkt) as Inter missed out on the Scudetto to rivals AC Milan by two points.

The Croat left the San Siro in the summer after his contract ran out and signed for Spurs, being the first of the seven new players to arrive through the door at the North London club during the transfer window.

The 33-year-old has had a promising start to life at Tottenham, having already provided four assists across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

In contrast to the Lilywhites, who have had a strong start to the season, Inter have picked up just 12 points from seven league games so far and are languishing in seventh place in the Serie A table.

Moratti believes that Perisic’s departure is one of the main reasons behind the club’s decline.

The 77-year-old told TuttoMercatoWeb: “Well, certainly one thing we all pretend to forget is that Perisic was very strong. He gave us a hand. remarkable. Maybe yes, it was a little underestimated, it was a very important and heavy change.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Inter play a similar system to Spurs and rely on their wing-backs for their creativity, the impact of Perisic’s departure on the Italian club, cannot be overstated.

Inter’s loss is certainly Tottenham’s gain, and I fully expect the Croat to have at least 15 goal contributions across all competitions over the course of the season.
