Former PL forward names two players Pochettino will be ‘furious’ with

Tottenham have seen a massive upturn in form since Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm. Since the Portuguese manager took over the Lilywhites have won four out of their five games and have scored goals for fun.

In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that the 56-year-old has helped Spurs potentially salvage a season which looked like a lost cause under Pochettino.

Former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan believes the former Tottenham boss will be furious with the Tottenham stars who have upped their game since his departure.

He singled out Toby Alderweireld and Dele Alli and opined that it will be disheartening for Pochettino to see the pair play so well given how poor they were under him this season.

Both players have started every single game since Mourinho arrived at the club and have arguably been two of Tottenham’s most improved players in recent weeks.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said, “You don’t need to do too much second-guessing to know Poch is absolutely furious over the sudden turnarounds in some of the players. He’s going to be upset as well.

“It is massively unfair on him that Dele Alli and Alderweireld are suddenly playing so much better.

“Mourinho taking over has been like flicking a switch for both them. When certain players aren’t doing it, sometimes it’s so hard for a manager to get them back playing well.

“Pochettino would have tried everything – the carrot, the stick – to help Alli and Alderweireld rediscover their form.

“Watching them look so good again will be hard for him to take.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Pochettino relationships with some players had clearly deteriorated towards the end of his time at Tottenham and Alderweireld was clearly one of those. However, it is unfair to single out Alli as his upturn in form actually started a couple of weeks before Mourinho arrived at Spurs. Besides, returning to the No.10 role has clearly benefited his game.
