Paul Robinson has been extremely impressed with Guglielmo Vicario, speaking in glowing terms of the Tottenham number one’s distribution.
Vicario was a relative unknown to Premier League fans when Tottenham signed him from Empoli in the summer.
Given that even some high-profile goalkeepers have struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League over the last decade, some would have understandably been a little sceptical of the Italian.
The 27-year-old certainly did not pull up any trees in pre-season, which only further increased doubts about the signing.
However, Vicario has not put a foot wrong since the start of the season, having made a number of crucial saves.
The former Empoli man has also been steady with the ball at his feet and proved that he has excellent judgement, getting rave reviews from some pundits over recent weeks (Sky Sports MNF via TEAMtalk).

Vicario is impressing the goalkeeper’s union
Robinson has now stated that he has been impressed with how Vicario has seamlessly filled Hugo Lloris’ shoes.
When asked what he has made of the newcomer, the former Spurs goalkeeper told the official Tottenham podcast: “Hugely impressed with him. He’s got a lot of tests to come, it’s his first season.
“He’s a good age. I like the way he commands his box and his distribution is excellent. And taking over from Hugo, they are big shoes to fill.”

While Vicario might not be as good as Alisson, Ederson or Ter Stegan with the ball at his feet, he is very composed and seems to always make the right decisions even when under pressure, which is a very important attribute for a modern-day goalkeeper.
