Former player believes Liverpool could increase Spurs’ problems by making move for key player

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes that Liverpool could potentially try and prise Christian Eriksen away from North London.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered heartbreak to Liverpool in the Champions League final on Saturday night and could further increase Spurs’ woes by making a move for their playmaker.

Eriksen has just 12 months to run on his existing deal at Tottenham and unless they sell him during the current transfer window, they risk him being able to talk to European clubs in January and walking away on a free transfer next summer.

Spurs have not been able to agree upon a new contract extension with the Dane which gas seen Real Madrid being heavily linked with a potential bid for the former Ajax man (AS).

O’Hara feels that Liverpool are missing a midfielder in the style of Eriksen who can provide the creativity for their attacking trio of Sane, Salah and Firminho.

“(Liverpool) need a central midfielder player. I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that they might try and take Eriksen from Tottenham as he’s in the last year on his deal,” O’Hara said when speaking to Sky Sports News (3rd June, 1.30pm).

“He’s the type of player they need.”

Opinion

Christian Eriksen has performed well below his typical level for a number of months but if he is to leave Spurs, they must sell him abroad rather than further strengthen a Premier League rival.
