Former player suggests Danny Rose may decide on Spurs u-turn

Michael Brown has suggested that Danny Rose could make a surprise return to the Tottenham Hotspur first team if he does not leave the club today.

The left-back has been frozen out of Jose Mourinho’s plans having not been allocated a squad number or named in the club’s 25-man squad for the Europa League campaign (Sky Sports).

The 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Championship outfit Middlesbrough with EFL clubs able to conduct transfer business until 5pm this evening (Daily Mail).

Rose is out of contract in North London next summer and despite any interest from the Championship, Brown believes that the left-back may decide to remain at Tottenham.

Brown, claimed that there could be a possibility that Rose may focus on trying to force his way back into Mourinho’s first team.

Mourinho has instead put his faith in Ben Davies and bolstered his options for the position with the recruitment of Sergio Reguilón from Real Madrid.

Brown told Football Insider: “Well for me, I don’t think it’s a surprise move to go to Middlesbrough if I’m Danny Rose – I think there are a lot of clubs in the Championship who will want to sign him.

“It’s just whether he chooses to go and do that, play some football or just back himself and get some minutes at Spurs – they are obviously going to play a lot of games, can he work his way in to get an opportunity if he waits a little bit longer?”
