Former player suggests Spur would be a good fit for Man Utd or Leicester

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier has found himself in recent times go from a regular England international to a bit-part player with his club side.

The midfielder made his first Premier League start of the season in the 3-0 defeat against Brighton last weekend and didn’t cover himself in glory during the game.

Dier, who was such an important part of Pochettino’s side in his first few seasons at the club, has now seemingly fallen behind the likes of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, and Tanguy Ndombele in the pecking order.

Former Spurs striker Darren Bent has insisted the 25-year-old needs to leave Tottenham to resurrect his career.

The former England striker claimed that Dier would be an astute signing for many of the top clubs in the Premier League.

He also suggested that the England midfielder would form a good partnership with Paul Pogba in the middle of the park for Man Utd.

Speaking to Football Insider: Bent said “I think Leicester would be a good one, they could get the best out of him, Everton, yeah, good,”

“Even someone like Manchester United could do with him, a holding midfielder – don’t play Fred there (as) a holding midfielder, he (Dier) plays holding, Pogba plays next to him where he can go and have a free role.

“That wouldn’t be a bad signing for them because he is someone that knows his role, will sit there in front of the back four and give that back four protection.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe some Spurs fans were too critical of Dier’s performance against Brighton. While his touch was obviously poor, some rustiness was to be expected given his lack of playing time recently. I wouldn’t put it beyond the 25-year-old to win his place back in the side before the end of the season.
