Former Premier League star hints Heung-min Son may have made a big Tottenham mistake

A former Southampton defender, who currently plays in Major League Soccer, has made an admission about Heung-min Son’s first few months at Los Angeles FC after his move from Tottenham.

Son scored 173 goals for Tottenham in total, placing him fifth on the club’s all-time scoring list, and he was one of the most consistent forwards across the Premier League for the last decade.

The Spurs legend decided to call time on his career in Europe this summer, and as expected, he is looking a cut above the rest since his move to the United States.

Son has been ripping defences in the MLS to shreds since his summer move, already having nine goals and three assists in just 10 league outings for his new side.

Maya Yoshida makes an admission about Tottenham legend Heung-min Son

Maya Yoshida knows the former Spurs man well from his time in the Premier League, with the duo having locked horns on a few occasions in England.

The centre-back, who made nearly 200 appearances for Southampton, has been plying his trade for LAFC’s local rivals, LA Galaxy, since 2023.

When asked about his impressions of Son at LAFC, the Japanese star responded (via Steve Han): “It’s too easy for him here.”

It appears Yoshida thinks Son is still good enough to play in Europe, with the Spurs legend having given up an opportunity to play one last season in the Champions League under Thomas Frank.

Could Son return to Spurs on loan?

Seeing how well the 33-year-old is doing at Los Angeles, some Spurs fans may even be wondering if he could be a short-term option for the Lilywhites in January, given Tottenham’s struggles at left wing.

The MLS Cup Final is set for Dec 6, 2025, and the next season does not start until late February 2026, which potentially presents a window for the forward to return to North London on a temporary move.

However, Football Asian have reported that there is no chance of Son returning to Spurs on loan in the winter as the forward will be joining the Coachella Valley Invitational in January, which is the biggest preseason event in North American football history.
