Former Premier League striker reveals he will spend time with Mourinho at Spurs

Former Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy has revealed that he has spoken to Jose Mourinho about spending time at Spurs to learn how the Tottenham head coach operates.

McCarthy initially took English football by storm in his first season with Blackburn Rovers after moving to the club in the summer of 2006.

However, he failed to replicate the same form in his subsequent years with the club and followed the spell at Blackburn with another unsuccessful one at West Ham.

The former South Africa international did enjoy a lot of success under Mourinho at Porto before moving to England, even helping them to the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League title.

The 41-year-old took over as the head coach of Cape Town City FC in 2017 but is without work since being let go by the club last December.

He revealed that is going to spend his off time productively by learning from his former boss at Tottenham.

Speaking to BBC Sport, McCarthy said: “I am in regular contact with Jose so I’m going spend some time at Spurs to see how he operates and what I can learn from him.”

For all that has been said and written about Jose falling out with his own players during his stint at Manchester United and his second spell at Chelsea, it is clear that a lot of players who worked with him in his earlier days absolute adore him. Hopefully, he can forge a similar relationship with the likes of Kane and Alli at Spurs.
