Former Premier League striker says Spurs were never in the title race

Former Premier League striker Jason Roberts has suggested that Tottenham were never in the title race despite claims to the contrary from the club and its fans.

Spurs were second in the Premier League table going into the weekend and a win over Wolves would have put the North London team three points behind Liverpool before they kicked off against Arsenal at home.

After having blitzed Everton 6-2 at Goodison Park and thrashed Bournemouth 5-0 at Wembley, Spurs fans were optimistic of their team putting up a title challenge this season.

However, Spurs crumbled to a 3-1 defeat at home to Wolves while Liverpool thrashed Arsenal and City overcame Southampton, putting Spurs in third place and nine points behind the league leaders Liverpool.

Roberts took to Twitter to insist that Spurs never had a chance of winning the title to begin with.

He posted this from his official Twitter account on Saturday:

The Tweet from the former Blackburn striker certainly incurred a backlash from Spurs fans.

However, looking at the table at the moment, even the most fervent of Tottenham fans will admit that the Lillywhites’ chances of winning the title look bleak, particularly given Liverpool’s form.
