Former Spur believes that midfielder would be a hit if he left Tottenham

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gus Poyet has suggested that Christian Eriksen would be a good signing for Real Madrid.

The Dane revealed earlier this month that he would like to leave Spurs this summer after six seasons at the club to seek a new challenge whilst also mentioning Madrid as a destination of interest (Ekstra Bladet).

Eriksen has just twelve months to run on his current contract which puts Spurs in a predicament of selling him this summer for as much as they can squeeze out of Madrid or risk him walking away for free at the end of next season.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish giants throughout the off season but a move is yet to materialise (Telegraph).

Poyet believes that Eriksen’s ability to play in a number of midfield positions along with his ability to read a game will see him adapt well to life at Los Blancos.

Poyet told AS when asked about Eriksen and Real Madrid: “Yes. He always caught my attention. He understands football, he can play in many positions, he strikes the ball exceptionally, he takes responsibilities.

“The closer he is to the area, the more he influences the game, but if you are losing and you need more defence to start more offensively, he is also worth it.”
