Former Spur questions defender’s ability to play at the highest level

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes that the club should consider replacing Kieran Trippier this summer.

The right-back has been the focus of negativity from large sections of the Spurs support this season after a number of defensive lapses have ended up costing his side dearly.

High profile errors against Arsenal, Chelsea and Ajax among others have left some questioning whether Trippier has the quality to be a top rate defender.

Trippier was one of England’s most impressive players during their World Cup campaign in Russia last summer and he opened the scoring in the semi-final defeat to Croatia with a stunning free-kick, but has failed to kick on and continue the form into the Premier League this season.

The former Burnley man has been linked with a potential move away from North London with apparent interest coming from Napoli (Sky Sport Italia).

With Spurs securing their place in the final of the Champions League for the first time in their history along with a fourth successive top four finish, O’Hara feels the club should look elsewhere for someone with more quality.

O’Hara said during his appearance on talkSPORT’s The Final Word : “Trippier, I wouldn’t say he’s had a poor season,”

“But if you’re talking about the club going to another level again that’s another one you can look at. Can they sign someone who is going to make a difference?”

Opinion

Kieran Trippier’s quality in attack is certainly the best part of his game, when he’s on form he can easily provide a couple of assists but his lapses of concentration and positioning in defence have proven costly.

A fresh start and a new found confidence at a new club would certainly be in the best interests of the England international.
