Former Spurs boss suggests ‘bold’ solution to Tottenham’s Son problem

Harry Redknapp has suggested that Antonio Conte could be brave and start all four of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison against Leicester City.

Richarlison has quickly won over both Conte and the Tottenham fan base since his big-money move from Everton in the summer.

The Brazilian has started Spurs’ last three games against Fulham, Marseille and Sporting Lisbon, alongside Kane and Son, with Kulusevski being introduced as a second-half substitute in all three matches.

The Swede has also been in impressive form so far this season, with many Spurs fans on social media suggesting that he deserves to start over Son, who has had a poor start to the campaign and is yet to find the back of the net in the eight games he has played so far (Transfermarkt).

When asked about Son, Conte reiterated in his press conference on Thursday that no player, including the South Korean, is undroppable (Football.London).

Redknapp acknowledged that the Italian has a big decision to make and questioned if he will be bold enough to start all four of his front players.

The former Spurs manager told talkSPORT (14/09/22 at 9:30 am): “They have good options haven’t they, that’s the thing.

“Does he leave Son out of the team? I mean he’s a fantastic player, isn’t he!? He’s just having a slow start to the season.

“What nice options to have with them four. Maybe even bold enough to go and stick the four of them in, who knows?”

For all four to fit into the starting eleven, Conte would either have to start Kulusevski at right wing-back or switch formation and potentially adopt a 4-2-4.

The chances of the Italian doing either are extremely slim and so, if Kulusevski does start against Leicester, it would have to be at the expense of one of the front three.

I think Richarlison is the one who is most likely to make way for the Swede as Conte seems determined not to drop Son and further dent his confidence.
