Former Spurs boss thinks Harry Kane will lose sleep over moment this week

Speaking on Matchday Live on Optus Sport, former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood suggested Harry Kane will lose sleep over a missed chance in the win over Fulham which would have seen him break the record as the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Spurs bounced back from an incredibly frustrating run of results to register a tight 1-0 win over Fulham last night. Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game to take his tally to 16 league goals this season (Transfermarkt).

It was not only a significant win for the North London side, but Kane’s goal also saw him reach 266 goals for Spurs (Transfermarkt), taking him level with Jimmy Greaves in the list of the club’s all-time goalscorers (BBC Sport).

Kane had a great opportunity to go one better, though, missing a header in the second half. Had Kane converted that, he would have gone clear of Greaves, and would have registered his 200th Premier League goal, too.

Speaking after the game, Sherwood claimed Kane would be gutted about missing the chance and will be playing the situation over and over in his head.

He said: “He won’t sleep tonight. 200 Premier League goals he could have scored with this chance – it’s the easiest chance he’s ever going to have and he will not sleep tonight thinking about this one.

“That’s the standards this boy has, he knows he just needs to head it down but he makes a poor judgement. He’ll be going over and over that in his mind and he’ll have a few sleepless hours tonight.

“He’s a perfectionist, he drives himself and he’s his own biggest critic. On another day he could have had two tonight.”

I’m sure Kane will be disappointed to have missed such a good opportunity to score again, but it’s only a matter of time before he gets that next goal to take the record at Spurs. After that, he will be all about chasing down Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer for the Premier League record, and I fancy him to take that one too.
