Former Spurs boss thinks the club will look to sign 27-year-old striker this summer

Tim Sherwood has confidently asserted that Tottenham Hotspur will try to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney in the summer.

Toney surprised many with the ease at which he adapted to the Premier League last season after Brentford’s promotion to the top flight and the centre-forward has managed to hit even greater heights this season.

The 27-year-old has found the back of the net 18 times across all competitions so far this season and has arguably been the best number nine on show in the English top flight besides Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

There has been plenty of speculation about Kane’s future over the last few weeks, with the striker thought to be a target for Manchester United in the summer (Daily Star).

Spurs legend Michael Dawson suggested month on Sky Sports News (2:18 pm, March 11, 2023) that the Lilywhites should pull out all the stops to get Toney if they lose the England captain in the summer.

Sherwood believes that an approach from Spurs for the Brentford star is imminent.

The pundit said on MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (01/04/23 at 8:35 pm): “They (Brentford) will do well to keep hold of Toney.

“Everyone will come in to try and get him. I think Tottenham will look to get him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham do lose Kane, it would be a no-brainer to go for Toney in the summer.

However, I expect Levy to fight tooth and nail to hold on to the England captain this summer, which is why I expect the Brentford star to end up at Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United.
