Former Spurs first-teamer reveals what it was like working with Pochettino’s son

Former Tottenham winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou has spoken to the French media about what it was like working with Mauricio Pochettino’s son, Sebastiano, at Tottenham.

Spurs signed Nkoudou from Marseille in 2016 but the winger struggled to get too many minutes under his belt during his three years at North London.

The Frenchman left Tottenham to join Besiktas in 2019 and has become an important player for the Turkish giants.

It was Pochettino who was in charge during Nkoudou’s time at Spurs, with his son Sebastiano working in the sports science department.

Sebastiano has taken up a similar role at Paris Saint-Germain after the former Tottenham boss took over at the Ligue 1 giants last year.

Nkoudou has admitted that it was little awkward working with Sebastiano since he was the manager’s son but he spoke highly of the 27-year-old’s passion for the job and his ability to connect with the players.

The former Spurs winger told the print edition of L’Equipe (as relayed by Sport Witness) about Sebastiano: “He is someone passionate, who loves his job. He is determined to be precise, rigorous.

“He will not shout to achieve his goal, but make you understand the interest of the exercise.

“There is necessarily a restraint because he is the son of the coach but he is someone close to the players.”

Like Conte, Pochettino was someone who valued strength and conditioning and the players’ fitness very highly. The Argentine was certainly big on sports science, and so, it is unlikely that he would have appointed Sebastiano unless he thought his son was one of the best at what he does.
