Former Spurs goalkeeper claims Tottenham can win the league under Antonio Conte

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has been full of praise for Antonio Conte, and even claimed the club could challenge for the Premier League title under the Italian’s management.

Friedel knows a thing or two about the Premier League, having spent just under 19 years plying his trade in England’s top flight. The American keeper retired from football in 2015 with Spurs, registering 450 Premier League appearances in his career (Transfermarkt).

Tottenham Hotspur have recruited effectively over the summer, bringing in six new players to the club. With improved squad depth, and a full pre-season under Conte, many in the game are now backing Spurs to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

Just this week, the likes of Manchester City midfielder Rodri (31/07/2022 via Liverpool Echo) and Manchester United legend Roy Keane (ITV (30/07/2022 – 4:55pm) added their support to Tottenham’s challenge to disrupt the established top two in the league.

Now, in an interview with Boyle Sports, Friedel claims Spurs can do even better than that, and should be considered as title contenders.

“Under Antonio Conte, you’d be foolish to rule out Tottenham for the title,” Friedel said.

“He’s been at the club a while now and spent some quality time with his players so they could be a dark horse. He doesn’t settle for second best.”

“Antonio Conte is a winner. He’s done great business in the transfer window, but it’ll be tough,” Friedel admitted. “Arsenal and Manchester United have both improved, however, you can’t take Tottenham out of the question when you have a winner like Conte.

“When a club has a manager like Antonio Conte and players that are used to winning they can do special things in a season,” Friedel added. “Tottenham definitely have an outside chance of winning the Premier League, for sure.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Everyone knows what Antonio Conte is capable of, and we all remember how quickly he worked his magic at Chelsea to bring them the title back in 2017. The first priority for Spurs this season is to close the gap on the top two of Manchester City and Liverpool, but if either of those teams slips up, you can bet Conte will be right there waiting to capitalise.
