Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho has departed Al Ahli after playing just four games for the club.
The Brazilian joined the Saudi Arabian side as a free agent on July 22 after having his contract with Chinese Super League club Guangzhou FC cancelled by mutual consent.
However, Al Ahli have confirmed the 33-year-old will depart the club after just two months, citing ’emergency circumstances’ as the reason behind the termination of his contract.
Paulinho played just four games and scored two goals for the Jeddah-based side, where he intended to stay until June 2024.
A statement from the club read: “The termination of the contract with ‘Paulinho’ comes due [to] emergency circumstances, he spoke with the club’s management recently, which was reflected in his performance on the field during the past rounds, expressing his inability to provide the desired addition to the team.”
Paulinho was part of the infamous ‘Magnificent Seven’ that Spurs acquired by using the funds from the then world-record sale of Gareth Bale in 2013.
The £17 million signing spent just two years in North London before moving to China in 2015, where he won two consecutive Chinese Super League titles.

Paulinho has endured a topsy turvy career which has taken him to England, China, Spain back to China and Saudi Arabia.
There was a lot of hype surrounding his transfer eight years ago, with many touting him to become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
It is a shame how it has panned out, and there will be no doubt that another club will pick him up with him being a free agent again.
