Former Spurs man reveals where he thinks Markanday should go on loan

Alan Hutton has claimed the best loan move for Dilan Markanday would be to a club close to London who will play him week in week out, rather than a trip to Scotland to sit on Celtic or Rangers’ bench.

The 20-year-old, who has tallied 11 goals and five assists in the Premier League 2 this term, has allegedly been receiving plenty of interest ahead of the January transfer window as a result of his displays.

Reports emerged claiming Scottish rivals Celtic and Rangers joined a number of Championship clubs including Bournemouth, West Brom and QPR in the race to land Markanday on loan in the winter.

Spurs are said to be accepting of a short-term departure for Markanday, but are keen for the forward to sign a new contract before heading out of the club.

Despite being linked with Markanday, ex-Spurs defender Hutton believes Celtic and Rangers might not be the best move for him when compared to a Championship side who can offer him regular game time.

He told Football Insider: “The fact they’re in Europe, it will boil down how much playing time is he going to get.

“If he’s going to come up to Rangers, maybe sit on the bench and be a bit-part player, that’s not ideal. If he’s going to go to Celtic and play more minutes, it’s all about the player’s development.

“His plan is to come up, do well, play games to go back and be a Tottenham Hotspur player. It’s whatever’s going to suit him the best game-wise. That will be the team that he fits.

“If it’s a Championship team that is close to London, where he’s going to play week in, week out, that is better for his development.

“Better than maybe playing the odd European game for Rangers and Celtic and sitting on the bench. It’s all really going to depend on game time.”

In all honesty, a loan would be good for Markanday regardless of where he goes. As long as he gets a decent amount of game time at a senior level, it will be extremely beneficial for him and Spurs going forward.
