Former Spurs midfielder expresses his delight at Premier League return

Former Spurs midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has taken to social media to reveal his delight after joining Newcastle United on loan for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle confirmed on Tuesday that they had agreed to a loan deal with Schalke to bring Bentaleb back to the Premier League with an option to make the deal permanent for a fee of around £8.5 million in the summer (Sky Sports).

The Algerian international, who came through the Spurs youth set-up, was initially handed first-team opportunities by interim manager Tim Sherwood and grabbed them with both hands.

He established himself in the side during Mauricio Pochettino’s first season at the club but was subsequently sold to Schalke after falling out of favour the subsequent year.

The 25-year-old had a successful first couple of years in the Bundesliga but hasn’t featured since last April after being sent to train with the club’s second string because of disciplinary issues (Sky Sports).

Bentaleb revealed last year of his regret of how he made mistakes at Spurs which led to his exit and admitted that he wished he was still at the club (Independent).

After sealing his return to the Premier League, the midfielder posted the following message on social media:

I was always a big fan of Bentaleb and I believe he could have developed into a top midfielder had he continued his development under Pochettino for a few more years. Hopefully, this move works out for him and he goes on to have a great career with the Magpies.
