Former Spurs player claims he would take 66-year-old manager at Spurs

Jamie O’Hara has claimed that he would take Marcelo Bielsa at Tottenham despite having a ‘shocking’ way of setting his teams up to defend.

Bielsa watched his Leeds United side get thrashed 4-0 by Spurs on Saturday, which proved to be the final nail in his tenure at Elland Road.

The Argentine coach was sacked the following day with Leeds loitering just two points above the Premier League relegation zone.

Bielsa’s departure had been coming, though, with the Whites shipping a dismal 20 goals in their last five league games

But despite Leeds having the worst defensive record in the top-flight this term, O’Hara claims he would take Bielsa at former club Spurs should Antonio Conte leave this summer.

The Italian flirted with the idea that he is not the right man to lead the helm at Spurs after seeing his side falter to a drab 1-0 defeat at Burnley last week (Daily Mail).

O’Hara told talkSPORT (28/02/22): “Yes, I would have Bielsa [at Tottenham]. I would take him because I think he has got unbelievable intensity, in terms of how he wants his team to play attacking football. And the way they push forward.

“It’s just the way he defends that is nowhere near good enough. It’s absolutely shocking.

“It’s gung-ho football, and as much as that is great to watch, and it is, it gets tiring in the end when you are getting beat 4-0 and 6-0. Then you might win a game and you might say, ’Oh, they look great’.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m not sure Bielsa is exactly the answer when Conte is still present in the Spurs dugout and hasn’t gone anywhere. Even still, Bielsa’s style might be too open for the Premier League and we have seen just how easy it has been for teams to pick his side apart.
