Former Tottenham goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, believes that Mauricio Pochettino will stay true to his word and return to manage Tottenham in the future if the opportunity arises.
In an interview with BT Sport last week, the former Spurs boss admitted his regret at not being able to finish what he started in North London, claiming he would like to come back and win a title in the future.
Some Spurs fans reacted rather emotionally to the Argentine’s comments, over five months after he was sacked by Daniel Levy and the Tottenham board.
Jamie Redknapp suggested that the 48-year-old only uttered those words to keep the Spurs fans on his side (Sky Sports’ The Football Show).
However, Robinson believes that the former Spurs boss will return to North London in the future if the circumstances are right, given how highly thought of he is at the club.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former England number one said: “It was surprising when he was sacked. He did a fantastic job at the club both with the team and off the field.
“The training ground development and the stadium. He brought through players and helped manage the budget with Daniel over the years. The brought a winning style of football into Spurs.
“The top-four finishes and the Champions League were all brilliant but the lack of trophy was disappointing because his tenure deserved a trophy. If they won the Champions League he would have gone on longer.
“He has not left under a cloud. He is very well thought of amongst Tottenham fans.
“People say never go back but I suspect, one day, if the opportunity did arrive, he would. He has an affinity with the fans.”

I have been convinced from the day that he left that Pochettino will one day return to manage us. However, who knows how far into the future that might be. Let’s hope that we can win a couple of major honours before then and move up another level as a club if and when Pochettino returns for his second spell.
