Former Spurs star sends warning to Conte’s men ahead of Chelsea clash

Brad Freidel has warned Tottenham Hotspur not to expect an easy game against Chelsea despite the Blues’ poor form over the last couple of months.

While Spurs have been far from convincing over recent months, having struggled for consistency, they go into the London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday as massive favourites.

That is because Chelsea have won just one game out of their last 10 matches in all competitions and are currently languishing in tenth place in the Premier League table.

Following their 1-0 loss to Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, reports indicate that Graham Potter is now at major risk of losing his job, just a few months on from taking over at the West London club (Fichajes.net).

Friedel sympathised with Potter, pointing out that the former Brighton boss would be finding it difficult to manage a squad of such size.

However, the American warned Tottenham not to expect their London rivals to roll over on Sunday.

The former Spurs goalkeeper told Sportskeeda: “It will still be a tough fixture, just look at the squad Chełsea have, although maybe they have too many players!

“I understand what they were trying to do with the loophole and the signings of the players, especially for FFP, but I’m not sure it’s so easy to manage all those players.

“I’m sure it’ll take Potter even longer with all those top-quality players to figure out who is going to play the best together.

“It’s almost too many players. Chełsea have been so different this year to what we’ve been very used to for the last 15-20 years.

“Nonetheless, Chełsea is a dangerous side and it’s going to be a hard game. Just because their form hasn’t been great and Spurs are at home, doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy, not by any stretch of the imagination.

“You would also think that losing at home to Southampton, although it’ll be a confidence blow, it’s going to lift a couple of the players – especially when playing a local derby. It’s going to be a hard game for both teams.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe that one of the reasons that Chelsea (like West Ham) have a good record against us is that they view the game as their biggest derby, which is not the case for Spurs.

So, form usually goes out of the window in a game like this and the Chelsea players will be looking at this game as an opportunity to make a statement and turn their form around.
