Former Spurs striker claims Inter move is being forced on Eriksen

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has claimed that Christian Eriksen isn’t really keen on a move to Inter Milan and that the transfer is being forced on him.

Eriksen, who is into the final year of his contract with Spurs, has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan for the past few weeks (the Sun) but Jose Mourinho has insisted that the deal isn’t close and that the midfielder remains as a part of his plans (Football.London).

The 27-year-old has struggled to replicate the sort of form recently that has helped him build a fantastic reputation at Spurs for the past few years.

Bent is not convinced that Eriksen is particularly interested in completing a move to Inter this month.

He suggested that the former Ajax man would have ideally wanted to move to Real Madrid or Barcelona but now has no choice but to settle for Inter as Antonio Conte’s side are the only ones to show interest in him.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former England striker said, “I almost feel with Christian Eriksen, it’s got to a point I’m not sure he really even wants to go to Inter Milan but it’s kind of been forced upon him now.

“Because he’s made it so clear he wants to leave and I’m sure in the summer he had all these options, Real Madrid, Barcelona, all these top, top teams – no disrespect to Inter Milan who are a top team, but they would have been down on his list.

“It would have been Real Madrid, Barcelona first and if that doesn’t work out, he’d see what’s available. I don’t even think he even wants to go there but because it’s maybe one of the only options that he’s got, he’s got to take it really.

“It doesn’t seem like he’s kicking and screaming to go there, he’s not jumping joy saying: ‘Hurry up, I want to get this deal done, I want to go, I want to go.’ For him, it’s been hard.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The move to Inter is a sideways step at best for Eriksen but the midfielder has only himself to blame for the fact that the big guns haven’t come in for him. His form over the last year has been extremely poor and it isn’t surprising that the likes of Madrid and Barca have their doubts about the Spurs midfielder.
