Former Spurs winger admits club were a ‘laughing stock’ before Pochettino arrived

Former Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has hit back at those who criticise Mauricio Pochettino for his lack of silverware and claimed that the Argentine completely transformed Spurs after he took over.

Yesterday, we covered Townsend’s comments about the former Tottenham Hotspur manager being the perfect fit for the Manchester United job, given the young talent which United have in their squad.

Despite the 48-year-old being the one who offloaded the winger to Newcastle United in 2015, Townsend spoke very highly of his former boss and how he helped improve the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

The Argentine has been heavily linked with the Old Trafford hot seat recently (Manchester Evening News) but it looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might have bought himself more time with the 3-1 win at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Townsend has now insisted that the former Spurs manager completed the project he started in North London and claimed that he turned a team who were a ‘laughing stock’ to the brink of domestic and European glory.
