Former teammate convinced this Spurs man is ‘definitely leaving’ before transfer deadline

Until recently, it seemed as if Danny Rose was set to stay at Tottenham at least until January, despite not being handed a squad number by the North London club.

Football.London claimed that the 30-year-old was not willing to take a step down to the second tier of English football and would turn down any chance to join a Championship club either on loan or in a permanent deal.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare also suggested that Rose was likely to stay and reassess his situation in January.

However, reports emerged on Wednesday that Middlesbrough were ready to make a late attempt to sign the left-back before tomorrow’s domestic transfer deadline and that Rose was considering moving to the Riverside Stadium.

The report did not mention whether Boro wanted to sign the Tottenham man on loan or if they wanted to complete a permanent deal.

Robinson has now asserted this his former Spurs teammate is guaranteed to leave the club before the transfer window shuts.

The former Tottenham goalkeeper told Football Insider: “The writing is on the wall for Danny Rose given that he has not got a squad number this season.

“I think he will see him move on and I am surprised that Newcastle did not sign him this summer because he did quite well there last season.

“Wherever he goes, he will do well. He is a top player, I like him, I rate him. He just does not fit in Jose’s plans and Jose does not want him around.

“I think he will move before the deadline, whether that be to Middlesbrough or wherever it may be. He is definitely one that will be leaving.”

It is unclear if Robinson is privy to some information that others are not or if he is guessing purely based on the fact that Rose has not been handed a squad number. However, one would think a temporary loan move to the Championship would be beneficial for the 30-year-old to build his fitness and put himself on the market in January.
