Former Tottenham defender says ‘limited’ Thomas Frank is losing the dressing room for gutless decisions

Ramon Vega has launched an attack on Thomas Frank and explained why the Dane may be losing the Tottenham dressing room.

Many pundits have questioned whether Frank is capable of coaching a side to play on the front foot, in light of Tottenham’s negative performances this season.

The Spurs boss silenced some of those critics by showing a little more adventure in Tottenham’s loss to PSG on Wednesday.

Thomas Frank insisted that he wants Spurs to play with the kind of aggression they showed against PSG, but one former Tottenham man is not convinced that the 52-year-old knows what he is doing.

Ramon Vega acusses Thomas Frank of sending mixed messages to the Tottenham squad

Vega has now claimed on the back of Tottenham’s approach against PSG that Frank is sending mixed signals to his squad.

The Swiss defender suggested that the former Brentford boss does not have the bravery to take games head-on and believes he is losing his players.

Vega told talkSPORT about Frank: “He is changing his mind every two seconds. One thing with Ange, whatever you criticise him, he might be limited in his own way, but he had the balls. He stuck to his guns. He did what he wanted.

“The players need this kind of certainty in the dressing room. That’s why I think when Ange was winning the Europa League with the young boys, 80 per cent of the season was with the young boys [due to injuries], the dressing room was sticking to him. And you can see that.

“I’m not sure this dressing room is starting to respect Frank because he’s changing how they play. They don’t know where to go, what to do. They haven’t got a strategically stable place to go.

“And the dressing room, as a player, when you know what the coach wants and he’s doing it week in, week out, the mentality is there, then the team starts to play well. But if you’re changing every five minutes, you really, really make the players very insecure. They don’t know where to go. And you can see that in these two games.

“If he doesn’t control the dressing room, he can be as good as he wants, as nice as he is, but he hasn’t got the balls. I don’t see Frank as suitable for this because I don’t think he has the balls. He hasn’t got a character to do this.”

Spurs players have come out in support of Frank

A couple of weeks ago, Wilson Odobert insisted that the Tottenham players are clear about the style of play Frank wants, and claimed that the squad has bought into the Dane’s methods.

Following Tottenham’s 5-3 loss to PSG, Archie Gray came out in support of Frank, stating that the Dane and his coaching staff have been “absolutely brilliant” since they walked through the door.

It thus appears that Frank has the support of the dressing room at the moment, but the Spurs boss will be aware that things can shift quickly if the team’s results do not turn around fast.
