Former Tottenham FA Cup hero misses three penalties in a shocking six minutes

Former Tottenham man Carlos Vinicius has suffered the ultimate spot-kick horror in the space of just six minutes.

Vinicius arrived on a season-long loan deal from Benfica for the 2020-21 campaign, with the Lilywhites choosing not to sign him permanently at the end of the term.

The Brazilian had decent numbers for Spurs, scoring 10 goals in 22 outings, but most of those strikes came in the Europa League. His most famous moment arguably came in the FA Cup when he netted a hat-trick against non-league Marine FC.

The centre-forward made only nine appearances in the Premier League, playing second fiddle to the club’s record goalscorer, Harry Kane.

After leaving North London, Vinicius has had spells in PSV Eindhoven, Fulham and Galatasaray before joining Brazilian club Gremio at the start of last year.

The 31-year-old has been prolific since his return to his home country, but he had a six-minute period that he will want to forget in Wednesday night’s Copa Sudamericana clash with Chilean side Palestino.

In a space of 6 minutes, the former Tottenham player took three spot-kicks, the first of which was in the 11th minute.

While the first one was touched onto the post, Vinicius was given the chance at redemption when the keeper was adjudged to have stepped off his line early. In bizarre scenes, the keeper then palmed the retake onto the other post… but was guilty of moving off his line early once again!

In the third and final penalty, Vinicius went for power and saw his effort well saved. This time, it counted.

Vinicius never took any penalties during his season at Spurs, and based on this evidence, it seems like there was a reason for Jose Mourinho not entrusting him with the responsibility.

Vinicius admits he learned a lot from Harry Kane

Speaking to ESPN last year, Vinicius confessed that his time at Tottenham, despite being short-lived, was important in shaping him as a player.

The Brazilian admitted he learned a lot, in particular by watching how Harry Kane operated at Spurs, praising the England striker’s professionalism.

However, Vinicius evidently did not learn too much from watching Kane take penalties in training.
