Former Tottenham fan favourite wins Ballon d’Or

It was announced last night that former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric was this years’ Ballon d’Or winner (BBC).

Modric became the first player other than Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi to win the award in over a decade.

The Croatian mastermind is now 33-years of age, showing that class really is permanent.

The little magician had a wonderful year for club and country, winning the Champions League with Real Madrid, and reaching the World Cup final with his national side of Croatia.

Modric spent a few seasons at Tottenham before making the lofty move to Madrid, and was always a fan favourite around White Hart Lane.

He was part of the Harry Redknapp Champions League era, with wonderful teammates such as Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale.

Spurs fans will always have fond memories of little Luka, and I’m sure many of them will be thrilled to see him lift the trophy.

Congrats Modric!
