Former Tottenham man understands why there may be ‘frustration’ in the dressing room

Alan Hutton has claimed that the Tottenham Hotspur dressing room does not seem like a happy place at the moment and has suggested that Jose Mourinho might have lost some of his players.

The Athletic reported earlier this week that sources within the club have said that the dressing room are not pleased with Mourinho’s approach to training, with some players feeling like there is too much focus on the defensive side of the game and nullifying opposition strengths.

Mourinho cut a defiant figure in his press conference on Tuesday insisting that the squad is still together and are determined to turn their form around, while Ben Davies also insisted that the players have fully brought into Mourinho’s methods.

However, Hutton believes that there are some problems behind the scenes at the North London club, with some Tottenham players being frustrated by Mourinho’s methods.

He insisted that the Portuguese coach now has little choice but to bring the players, who were previously out-of-favour, back into the fold.

The former Tottenham defender told Football Insider: “It seems to be a bit of him versus the players, it doesn’t seem like a good atmosphere. You look at people like Danny Rose who has been frozen out, Bale doesn’t look very happy, Alli being frozen out – it’s not ideal.

“I can imagine, as a player, it being a tough situation and you’re playing that defensively, you’re taking all the attributes of the attacking players away because you’re asking them to defend. I can see why there’s frustration.

“He wasn’t playing Bale, he wasn’t playing Alli but now that he needs them, they’re playing.

“He’s obviously realised he needs to get these guys firing and and hopefully he can do that because their run of form at the moment has been shocking.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While results have been extremely poor over the last couple of months, I
have seen no evidence to suggest that Jose has lost the dressing room. Even during our 2-1 defeat to West Ham last Sunday, the players were working their socks off and throwing the kitchen sink at the Hammers in the second half to get back into the game. So, I believe that the players are still very much playing for Mourinho.
