Former Spurs midfielder and academy graduate joins League One club

Ipswich Town have confirmed the capture of former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Carroll.

Carroll was highly regarded while coming through the ranks in the Spurs academy. The technically proficient midfielder was backed by many to become a future first-team star, with some even likening him with former Spurs man Luka Modric.

However, after being frustrated at the lack of opportunities at Spurs, the England Under-21 intentional eventually completed a permanent move to Swansea in 2016.

The midfielder was ravaged by injuries during his spell in Wales and eventually left the club last summer to sign a one-year contract with Queens Park Rangers.

The 29-year-old did not fare much better at Loftus Road as he struggled to make an impact in the 24 appearances he made for the Championship club last campaign.

In an effort to reignite his career, Carroll has now dropped another division by signing for League One outfit Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys revealed the former Tottenham man has put pen to paper with one a one-year contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is worth remembering that Carroll was considered by many to be the most gifted young player at Spurs during his time in the academy.

That is a major indication as to how talented the midfielder was considering that he came through in a similar age group to the likes of Harry Kane, Andros Townsend and Steven Caulker.

While Carroll’s physical limitations arguably stopped him from establishing himself at Spurs, injuries have most certainly robbed him of a career in the lower-end of the Premier League/top of the Championship.

Hopefully, the 29-year-old can put his injury problems behind him and make a name for himself at Ipswich.
