We may be seeing former Spurs man Sandro turning up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium more frequently in the future. That’s because the Brazilian has now officially retired from football.
The combative midfielder became something of an icon in North London during his four-year stay at Tottenham. Sandro clocked up 106 appearances for the Lilywhites between 2010 and 2014, and bagged three goals for the club (Transfermarkt).
Sandro earned the adoration and appreciation of the Spurs faithful over the years due to his enthusiastic displays in the middle of the park. Affectionately nicknamed ‘The Beast’, Sandro took no prisoners on the pitch, but was known to be an amiable presence away from the game.
Unless you asked him about Arsenal, that is. When Spurs played AC Milan in the Champions League earlier this year, Sandro was spotted among the Tottenham fans in Italy, and was even involved in a profane chant aimed at the Gunners (The Sun).

The 34-year-old has now brought to an end a playing career which spanned 16 years and took him from Brazil, to England, Turkey, Italy, and Portugal. Sandro shared a video on Instagram earlier this week announcing his decision to retire from the game.
Sandro also spoke to the club website about his retirement, and said: “I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. My football career has been like a dream, but now is the time to focus on my coaching.”
During his Spurs days, Sandro rubbed shoulders with iconic players such as Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, and Rafael van der Vaart.
Reflecting on his decision to leave Tottenham in 2014, Sandro admitted that the move was the ‘biggest regret’ of his career (Guardian).
Spurs Web Opinion
Sandro is one of those funny players who Spurs fans just seem to love; someone who works incredibly hard, does all the dirty work, and has a smile on his face while doing it. We always appreciate passion, enthusiasm, and relentless energy at Tottenham, and Sandro embodied all of those qualities.
