Former West Ham manager backs Spurs against his old side

Jose Mourinho has a tough assignment on his hands as his first game in charge of Tottenham Hotspur when he travels to the London Stadium to take on West Ham United in a London derby.

While the Hammers come into the game in pretty poor form, this fixture has always tended to be quite unpredictable in recent seasons.

The new Spurs boss revealed that while he hasn’t tried to change too much, he and his coaching staff have tried to instill some basic principles which they wish to see implemented against West Ham (Spurs TV).

While Tottenham find themselves in 14th place in the table going into the game, a win could take them as high as 5th place with little separating the teams behind the top four.

Former West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola has backed the Lilywhites to emerge as victors from the game on Saturday.

Speaking to Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT (Thursday, 8.18 am), Zola said, “It’s a difficult game. Playing against West Ham is never easy for anyone.

“If I have to give an advantage to either team, I think Spurs. West Ham have problems defending at the moment. If I have to give an edge, it should be to Tottenham.”

The game will certainly be close and I don’t think there will be more than a goal in it. West Ham might be on a terrible run of form but they always turn up for this fixture and we haven’t managed an away win since January. So three points on Saturday will be a massive boost for the team.
