Former West Ham youngster says Declan Rice won’t join Spurs as “he wants to win things”

Declan Rice is having a fantastic season at the heart of West Ham’s midfield. The 21-year-old who recently pledged his international future to England has impressed with his ability to read the game, win the ball back and as well as his ability on the ball.

He has caught the eye of several of the league’s big hitters with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool said to interested in hi signature. Most recently there were reports that Spurs had entered the race for the midfielder and were a plotting a £35million summer move for him. (Source: The Express)

Former Swansea midfielder Leon Britton took to social media to praise Declan Rice’s maturity and his positioning. When one Spurs fan responded by saying he would like Rice at Spurs in the future, Britton took a cheeky dig at Tottenham saying that Rice wouldn’t move to North London as he wants to win trophies.

Britton is of course a former West Ham youth player and Hammers fans thus quite liked his dig at Spurs. While Spurs haven’t won a trophy since the League Cup in 2008, West Ham are hardly the club to talk about trophies are they?

If Spurs were in for Rice, there is no doubt that he would prefer to compete in the Champions League rather than slogging it out for a top 10 finish at West Ham.
