‘Fought until the end’ – Clement Lenglet reacts to Spurs’ defeat at Aston Villa

Clement Lenglet has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur were unable to find a solution after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.

With two Premier League matches still to play, Tottenham’s season cannot end soon enough in the eyes of many supporters who are becoming more disenchanted with the club every week.

Spurs are in day + 48 of Antonio Conte‘s departure as head coach and in reality, everyone knew that the Italian would not be continuing in the role beyond the end of the season.

Cristian Stellini was given the responsibility which massively backfired and now Ryan Mason is the latest to struggle with a bunch of players who look incapable of doing anything positive on the pitch.

Lenglet was named in Mason’s starting eleven and claimed that he felt his side did not play bad, but were unable to threaten the Villa goal.

Villa’s win increases the pressure on Tottenham when it comes for the race for European football with the north Londoners now facing the possibility of missing out on even a place in the Europa Conference League.

The Frenchman told Premier League Productions as quoted by the BBC: “Disappointing performance because we lost the game and it was three important points to reach Europe next year.

“During the game I don’t think we played a bad game. We fought until the end and had good moments to score. We didn’t find a solution. We played against a good team and they are in a good moment.

“Every goal will be important until the end. That penalty can be crucial at the end of the season. We are disappointed so we need to work next week to be competitive again.

“The fans were there until the end. They pushed us and we were close to scoring the second goal. We will try to give everything for them until the end.”

Tottenham were linked with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol during the summer transfer window, there is absolutely no way the club will be able to attract such a high calibre of defender this summer with the lack of Champions League football on offer.

It remains to be seen whether Lenglet would be prepared to swap Barcelona for the circus in N17 on a permanent basis, he may be our best option given the current state of affairs.
