Micky van de Ven has admitted that while the Tottenham players have discussed the fact that finishing fifth might be enough to get into the Champions League, he insisted that he and his teammates have their eyes firmly on fourth place.
Tottenham leapfrogged Villa into fourth place after last weekend’s results and with the Lilywhites having a game in hand over the Midlands side, they may feel they are in the driver’s seat to secure Champions League qualification.
However, Ange Postecoglou is certainly not a fan of talking about the race for fourth, insisting in his press conference on Sunday that he is not bothered about finishing above Villa and is more concerned about seeing some progress from his wide on a weekly basis (Football.London).
While Postecoglou might downplay the pursuit of fourth, having been used to competing for titles at his previous clubs, a number of Spurs players have not yet tasted Champions League football.

This includes Van de Ven, who admitted that Tottenham want to seal qualification to the competition and do not want to rely on others by finishing fifth.
The centre-back said (via Tribal Football): “Of course, you are speaking about it because you know that maybe fifth place is going to be enough. But we are not focusing on fifth.

“We want to be fourth or even higher. We just want to make sure that at the end of the season, we don’t have to look at how everything went with the list.”

It is still possible that the extra Champions League spots might go to the Serie A and Bundesliga rather than to the Premier League. So the job is not done for Tottenham just yet, particularly with the difficult fixtures we have coming up.
