Francesco Totti makes Spurs move for Roma pair very difficult

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to strengthen their team this summer, after going over 16 months without a signing, however, they may find it tricky to source players from Roma.

In the past month, Spurs have been linked to two Roma stars, Nicolo Zaniolo (Sky Italia) and Lorenzo Pellegrini (Sky Italia), both extremely promising talents.

However, there could now be a catch, as Roma legend Francesco Totti has made his feelings clear about selling academy stars.

Roma have a history of keeping hold of their homegrown players and turning them into legends in Rome, such as Totti himself and Daniele De Rossi.

However, both of these stars have now been released from the club, De Rossi as a player and Totti who stepped down as director at Roma.

Totti is clearly unhappy about the decisions made leading to the two stars departing the club, stating that some people were determined to remove Romans from Roma.

With the fans being so loyal to these two legends, it could be the worst possible time for Roma to now sell academy graduates Zaniolo and Pellegrini without a fallout.

Totti said (BBC): “The main focus of certain people has been to remove Romans from Roma. In the end, the truth came out, because they achieved what they wanted.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

To be honest, I am not too bothered with these two players or this apparent drama surrounding them. I would be open to signing Pellegrini if his release clause is in fact £27m, but Zaniolo is far too overpriced for me. I would much rather go after the likes of Ndombele, Maddison, Van de Beek, Wan-Bissaka, Aarons, Sessegnon, Lo Celso, etc.
