Frank Lampard makes claim about Spurs in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur don’t take on Chelsea until later in the month, but Frank Lampard has already been talking about his rivals from North London this week.

This comes after Spurs have won their first two Premier League matches under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho, a man who used to have Frank Lampard’s current job.

Meanwhile, Lampard and Chelsea have lost their last two Premier League clashes, which has seen the Lilywhites creep up on them in the table.

Spurs were 14th when Mourinho took over and a whopping 12 points below the Blues in fourth, however, Tottenham are now in sixth and just six behind their rivals.

Therefore, when Chelsea come to the new Spurs stadium in December, it could be crucial in the fight for the Champions League places.

Lampard has now claimed that Tottenham would have been tipped by some to be in the title race this season, let alone the top four.

He said (Chelsea TV): “I think the competition for the top-four is always going to be great this season. Tottenham would have been people’s favourites to be in the title race at the start of the season, let alone top-four.

“We understand the competition of many teams in and around us. Some teams that have been unfancied are there as well, so we have to respect everybody, but mainly worry about ourselves.”
