Lille president Gerard Lopez has revealed that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of young midfielder Boubakary Soumare.
Soumare has gone on to establish himself in the heart of Lille’s midfield despite being just 20 years of age.
The young Frenchman broke into the Ligue 1 club’s first team a couple of years ago and has won several admirers across Europe with his displays.
The youngster came through the PSG academy and has represented France right through the different age levels. He is now a regular for the French U-21s and a senior cap for the Les Blues could be just around the corner for Soumare.
The Lille president revealed that there was no shortage of interest in the midfielder and named Mourinho has one of his admirers.
Tribal Football quotes Lopez as saying: “Soumare? It is true that there’s a lot of interest. From Spain, from Italy.
“The interest of José Mourinho? I know he likes him very much, yes. No, (for Tottenham) this is not the priority target, there are five, six clubs that are interested in him.
“Afterwards, he must also be interested in the club so we will see.”
When asked about potential new additions in January, Mourinho has so far insisted that he is happy with the squad at his disposal (Football.London).
Spurs Web Opinion
While Soumare fits the profile of a typical Spurs signing, I believe this move is quite unlikely after we spent considerably on central midfielders in the summer. If we are to dip into the transfer market in January, I believe a back up for Harry Kane and a full back should be the priority.
