French publication claims Spurs held interest in Ligue 1 striker this summer

Tottenham’s search for a striker this summer took them by many options across Europe, but a lesser known name in Lorient striker Terem Moffi also appeared on the list, according to French publication Ouest-France.

Spurs had found themselves looking towards Italy for strike partner for Harry Kane reportedly actually agreed a deal worth £60 million with Inter Milan for forward Lautaro Martinez, before negotiations broke down.

The Argentinian’s strike partner Romelu Lukaku had just completed a £97.5 million return to Chelsea, which prompted the Serie A holders to increase their demands for Martinez, after losing the Belgian forward.

Spurs also looked at Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, but never tabled managed to table a bid to La Viola, before the Serbian signed a new contract keeping him in Italy until 2023.

But Spurs also had more low-key targets and according to Ouest-France, Lorient’s Nigerian striker Moffi had attracted their interest.

In an interview with the club’s president, the Ligue 1 side wanted to keep a handful of players this summer, and it was suggested that Moffi was one of them.

The publication revealed that Spurs, and also La Liga holders Atletico Madrid were interested in signing the 22-year-old this summer, but it is unknown what Lorient’s demands would have been.

Moffi is certainly an option that is ‘out there’ especially after the type of strikers the club was looking at. He is a relatively young option still, so there is room to grow and there may be an opportunity for Spurs to revisit this rumour in the near future.
