French striker finds it ‘flattering’ to be linked with big clubs amid Spurs rumours

According to a report from Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur recently sent scouts to watch Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, and the striker has admitted it is very ‘flattering’ to see interest from big clubs.

Wahi joined Montpellier in the summer of 2019 and broke into the first team in the 2020/21 season, scoring three goals in 18 appearances in Ligue 1 (Transfermarkt).

The youngster has continued to impress since then, racking up 22 goals in total now (Transfermarkt).

The powerful attacker has been catching the eye with his displays for the French side, with Tottenham Hotspur thought to be among the admirers of the 20-year-old (Telefoot).

The publication claims Arsenal, Bournemouth, and Borussia Dortmund are also keen.

Wahi is a player who is ready to progress to the next level, according to French legend Bixente Lizarazu (Foot Sur 7).

The youngster is clearly happy with the attention he has been getting of late, but remains focused on the task at hand.

The latest from Foot Mercato claims Spurs have sent scouts to watch the striker in action recently. It is unknown if the scouting reports were favourable, but it’s a promising sign for Wahi.

On that interest, he told Telefoot (07/03/23 via Made in Paillade and Sport Witness): “How do I react to rumours of leaving for a big club?

“It’s always flattering to be courted by big clubs. But I’m still focused on Montpellier, we have games to play in the second half of the season, to try to hold on and we’ll give everything for La Paillade.”

By the sounds of it, our scouts are working hard across Europe keeping an eye on a range of highly-rated young attackers, which is always promising to hear.

Wahi looks to be a real prospect who has been scoring goals in the French league from a very young age, and could be a very good signing for Spurs.
