Frightened Arsenal legend claims Spurs and Levy have ‘lucked out’ in North London

Ian Wright has claimed that Daniel Levy has ‘lucked out’ in appointing Antonio Conte, adding that the Italian could help Spurs close the gap with Manchester City and Liverpool.

Even the most optimistic of Spurs fans would not have given the club much of a shot of qualifying for the Champions League this season after the poor start they had to the campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo.

While Conte’s first five months in charge of the Lilywhites have had their fair share of ups and downs, there is a sense over the last month or so that the team has turned a corner.

Spurs have won six of their last seven Premier League matches and sit three points clear of Arsenal in fourth place.

Tottenham now look to be the favourites to get the final Champions League qualification spot and Wright believes that Conte can help take the club to the next level, with the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min at his disposal.

The Arsenal legend said on the Kelly and Wrighty Show on Premier League Productions (14/04/22 at 1:25 pm): “Levy has lucked out, he has lucked out with this manager. And Man United, whatever you say about how he coaches, they have missed out.

“Tottenham are going to have to do unbelievable stuff to catch what Man City and Liverpool are doing, in respect of squads and achievements.

“If there is a manager that is going to help them to do it, then it will be Conte. It’s frightening, at the moment, with what Spurs could do with this manager, Harry Kane and Son.”

It is funny how whenever Levy makes a decision that proves right, as the appointment of Pochettino or Redknapp, it is a case of him getting lucky. However, whenever he makes a decision that backfires, like the appointment of Mourinho, the Spurs chairman is held responsible.

Spurs’ appointment of Conte cannot be described as ‘luck’ given that the club brought in Fabio Paratici knowing that he could help attract the former Inter Milan boss. It is worth remembering that we also tried to appoint Conte last summer.
