‘From what I am told’ – Fabrizio Romano provides Christian Eriksen update amidst Spurs links

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Brendan Rodgers is extremely keen on bringing rumoured Tottenham target, Christian Eriksen, to Leicester City this summer.

Brentford have been transformed since signing Eriksen and the Dane’s performances for the Bees have seemingly attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs.

Spurs have been credited with an interest in bringing the 30-year-old back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when his six-month contract with Brentford runs out (90min).

The North Londoners are thought to be facing competition from the likes of Newcastle United (Northern Echo), Manchester United (Daily Star) and Leicester City (Fabrizio Romano) while it has also been suggested that the attacking midfielder is considering penning a long-term contract at the Brentford Community Stadium (The Telegraph).

Eriksen has admitted that he would ‘love’ to play in the Champions League (Viaplay) while Thomas Frank has claimed there is ‘a very good chance’ that the former Spurs man will remain with the Bees next season (BBC Sport).

Romano has now explained that Rodgers is ‘in love’ with Eriksen but added that the Denmark international’s priority is to first hold discussions with Brentford.

He said on the Que Golazo Podcast: “Let me clarify one thing on Eriksen’s side, he is not desperate to play Champions League football. Of course, he would love to play in the Champions League, but from what I am told, he’s not desperate for that.

“His priority is to discuss with Brentford, to understand their plans and to respect them. And then he will discuss with other clubs, he has many possibilities on the market.

“Tottenham are interested in signing him, Leicester, Brendan Rodgers is in love with Christian Eriksen, but at the moment, nothing has been decided.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not confident that we will be able to win the race for Eriksen. While we might be able to offer the Dane Champions League football, the likes of Brentford and Leicester would be able to promise him a regular place in the starting eleven.

I do not believe Conte will be able to make Eriksen such a promise as the 30-year-old does not naturally fit into the Italian’s preferred 3-4-3 system.
