‘Frustrating’ – Harry Kane reacts after Spurs are held to 1-1 draw at St Mary’s

Harry Kane has taken to social media to express his frustration at Tottenham’s failure to come away with all three points against Southampton.

Antonio Conte made three changes to the starting eleven at St Mary’s from the win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, with Harry Winks, Dele Alli and Ben Davies coming in to replace Oliver Skipp, Lucas Moura and Japhet Tanganga.

The changes did not have the desired effect as the Saints started stronger and took the lead on 25 minutes through James Ward-Prowse.

Spurs then started taking control of proceedings and they got a big break just before half-time as Son Heung-min was brought down in the box by Mohammed Salisu, who was already on a yellow card.

The Southampton man got his marching orders and Kane converted from the spot to level the scores.

However, Tottenham endured a frustrating second half as Southampton defended deep with all ten men behind the ball.

Antonio Conte’s men had the ball in the back of the net on a couple of occasions after the interval but the goals were chopped off.

VAR controversially ruled that Kane was offside while Matt Doherty was adjudged to have fouled Fraser Forster when the Saints keeper seemed to fumble the ball into his own net.

Kane has taken to social media to admit that it was frustrating not to make the numerical advantage count on Tuesday.

Spurs Web Opinion

We were unlucky not to win it in the second half given the chances we created. However, what was concerning was our lacklustre start to the game.

We showed no intensity in the first 25 minutes until we went a goal down. A slow start has been a feature of the Conte era so far and that is something the Italian will be looking to put right.
