Fulham confirmed on transfer deadline day that they had agreed on a deal with Benfica to sign former Tottenham striker Carlos Vinicius.

After finishing the 2019/20 season as the top scorer in the Portuguese top flight, Tottenham snapped up Vinicius on loan for the 2020/21 season.

However, the centre-forward did not get too many opportunities in the
Premier League with the majority of his 22 appearances coming in the Europa League and cup competitions (Tranfermarkt).

Vinicius still had a decent goal return during his time in North London, finding the back of the net 10 times and providing three assists (TransferMarkt). Spurs had the chance to sign the striker for £36m after his loan spell (SkySports).

However Spurs chose against taking up the option to sign the Brazilian permanently last summer and he spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he notched up 14 goal contributions (TransferMarkt).

Vinicius has now completed a return to London, signing for newly-promoted Fulham on a permanent basis. According to The Evening Standard, the Cottagers paid £5m to Benfica for the former Tottenham man’s services.

Spurs Web Opinion

Vinicius did not get a fair crack of the whip during his time at Spurs and he did prove to be a handful whenever he played. One would assume that he will be Mitrovic’s backup at Fulham and it will be interesting to see the sort of impact he will have in the Premier League.
